Every Day Is a Gift You've Never Opened Before
A teacher's reflection on repetition and discovery — how teaching the same lesson four times revealed that nothing in life is ever truly the same. A reminder to embrace each day as a unique gift.
Every day feels the same? Boring? Look closer — there's a gift hiding in the ordinary, waiting for you to notice.
I teach part-time at a school. It's not a big commitment, but I love it — it gives me a chance to connect with young people and help those who need it.
This semester, I'm teaching the same course to four different classes. That means I deliver the exact same content four times a week.
At first, I thought it would get boring. Same slides. Same explanations. Same everything.
But something funny happened.
The Unexpected Discovery: Every Class Is Different
Every class felt completely different.
The students were different. Their questions were different. Their reactions, their energy, their jokes — all different. What I thought would be repetition turned into discovery. Each session taught me something new.
And that got me thinking about life.
The Illusion of Routine: Why Nothing Is Truly the Same
Don't we all feel like we're doing the same thing every day?
Wake up. Work. Come home. Spend time with family. Repeat.
It can feel monotonous. I used to think so too.
But here's the truth: nothing in this world is ever truly the same. It just looks similar.
The Snowflake Principle: Uniqueness in Every Moment
Think about snowflakes. From a distance, they all look alike — beautiful, white, delicate. But under a magnifying glass, every single one is unique. No two are ever the same.
Our days are like that too.
The bus you catch tomorrow won't have the same passengers as today. The conversation you have with your partner tonight will never happen exactly that way again. The sunset you see this evening? It's a one-time showing.
Embracing Change: The Only Constant in Life
The only constant in this universe is change.
And if you try to force every day to be identical — perfectly predictable, perfectly controlled — you'll find it's impossible. Life simply doesn't work that way.
Living in the Present: Your Invitation to Notice
So here's my invitation to you:
Pay attention today.
Notice what's different. What's new. What small gift is hiding in the ordinary.
Every snowflake is unique, but that doesn't mean one is better than another. We're all just beautifully different.
And every day? It's a present you've never unwrapped before.
That, I think, is what it really means to live in the present.
What's one small thing you noticed today that was different from yesterday? I'd love to hear — drop me a email message. 😊
